Olympia Youth Chorus
Excellence in Music Education and Choral Performance since 1995
Olympia Youth Chorus at a Glance
In Olympia Youth Chorus, we strive for excellence in developing young singers; contributing to their growth in musicianship, confidence, and performance skills. Our directors are all Washington State Certificated Music Educators who share a passion for inspiring and encouraging young singers. We are committed to building a supportive musical environment in which singers develop skills, make new friends, and share performances in a variety of concert venues. Our mission is to nurture the appreciation of the choral arts and the shared experience of creating fine choral music with children of all backgrounds.
26th Season News:
We are looking forward to seeing our singers after the long winter break and welcoming all new singers tonight, January 10, 2022!
We are excited to get together in person to sing again! As you may expect, our regular Monday rehearsals will look a bit different for the near future, but we will dedicate ourselves to keeping everyone safe and healthy while singing our hearts out together! All of our staff are vaccinated and will be wearing three-layer masks at all times. Singers will be required to wear a three-ply mask and will be distanced in rehearsals. The ventilation in our rehearsal rooms is at or above the industry standard. All Washington State Health Dept. required practices for performing arts classes will be observed.
Our new rehearsal location is at Jefferson Middle School in Olympia, 2200 Conger Ave NW.
Our Rehearsal Schedule:
Dolce (primary grades) 4:30-5:30
Bel Canto (upper elementary) 4:30-6:00 p.m.
Coro Voce (middle school) 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Cantabile (high school treble voices) 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Forza (changed voices) 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Come sing with us! We will be welcoming new singers into our choirs in January!
If you are interested in participating, please plan to attend the rehearsal on January 10th and send us a message through this website to confirm so that we can have a music folder ready for you.
In lieu of open auditions, our directors will meet individually with singers during the first few weeks in January to determine their best placement in the program.
We look forward to our next concert at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts in Olympia on Saturday, March 19th!
Kids Helping Kids
With this annual project, our goal is to create a partnership between our singers and other youth in our community who may be experiencing hardship or need. Each December, we donate the proceeds from two holiday concerts to a designated non-profit organization in our community which supports youth or families in need. Past recipients of our Kids Helping Kids Initiatives have included: Homeless Teen Backpacks, Family Education and Support Center, Rosie's Place, Little Red Schoolhouse, Camp HOPE America - Washington, and City Gates Ministries.
Retreats and Community Performances
With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to create community within our organization while also enriching our community arts landscape. Outside of weekly rehearsals, our singers participate in retreats, school performance tours, community caroling, and other concert and touring activities.
We have partnered in performance with Olympia Symphony Orchestra, Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia (SOGO) and Ballet Northwest. Performances have also included Olympia Choral Society Concerts, Providence St Peter Christmas in the Forest, The Governor's Mansion, Mary Bridge Hospital Festival of Trees, Argosy Christmas Ships, PICCFEST, World Strides On Stage Festivals, Fort Worden Children's Chorus Festival, Tacoma Rainiers Baseball and Sounders S2 game performances, and national and international tours with our advanced singers. In June 2020, our advanced high school singers were invited sing in the National Youth Choir Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Unfortunately, due to Covid, that performance was canceled.
