Olympia Youth Chorus
Excellence in Music Education and Choral Performance since 1995
Olympia Youth Chorus at a Glance
In Olympia Youth Chorus, we strive for excellence in developing young singers; contributing to their growth in musicianship, confidence and performance skills. Our directors are Washington State Certificated Music Educators who share a passion for inspiring and encouraging young singers. We are committed to building a supportive musical environment in which singers develop skills, make new friends and share performances in a variety of concert venues. Our mission is to nurture the appreciation of the choral art and the shared experience of creating fine choral music with children of all backgrounds.
Next Season News:
We are excited about getting back together with our singers in September 2021. As you may expect, our regular Monday rehearsals will look a bit different, but we will dedicate ourselves to keeping everyone safe and healthy while singing our hearts out together!
Open auditions will be happening for available openings in all five choirs for our 2021-2022 Season on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 24th and 25th, between 4:30-7:00 p.m. at Jefferson Middle School, 2200 Conger Ave NW, Olympia, 98502. Look for our sign in the parking lot along Conger Ave. These auditions are drop-in, first come, first served, and each should only take about 15-20 minutes as directors meet with singers individually to assess skills and place appropriately in the program. Masks are required.
Pre-registration for our continuing singers in all five choirs begins August 1, 2021. A registration form will be sent to previously registered singer families via email in late July. We really need T-shirt sizes, so please remember to fill in that part of the form. Your registration fee of $30 includes an OYC T-shirt. Singers who are moving up to a new choir will still need to audition, but they may pre-register.
Parents, this season we will be partnering with you on weekly health screenings and singer check in. Detailed information about that process will be included in the registration materials.
Until we see you again, keep singing, and check out our Facebook and Instagram pages. If you have any questions, please use the contact form on this site.
We miss you!
Love, Your OYC Staff
Kids Helping Kids
With this annual project, our goal is to create a partnership between our singers and other youth in our community who may be experiencing hardship or need. Each December, we donate the proceeds from two holiday concerts to a designated non-profit organization in our community which supports youth or families in need. Past recipients of our Kids Helping Kids Initiatives have included: Homeless Teen Backpacks, Family Education and Support Center, Rosie's Place, Little Red Schoolhouse and Camp HOPE America - Washington.
Retreats and Community Performances
With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to create community within our organization while also enriching our community arts landscape. Outside of weekly rehearsals, our singers participate in retreats, school performance tours, community caroling, and other concert and touring activities.
We have partnered in performance with Olympia Symphony Orchestra, Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia (SOGO) and Ballet Northwest. Performances have also included Olympia Choral Society Concerts, Providence St Peter Christmas in the Forest, The Governor's Mansion, Mary Bridge Hospital Festival of Trees, Argosy Christmas Ships, PICCFEST, World Strides On Stage Festivals, Fort Worden Children's Chorus Festival, Tacoma Rainiers Baseball and Sounders S2 game performances, and national and international tours with our advanced singers. In June 2020, our advanced high school singers have been invited perform in a national choral festival on stage at Carnegie Hall.
