When does OYC accept new singers?

New singers are invited to join us 3 times a year.

• May and August for Fall enrollment

• January for Winter enrollment

We also hold Bring a Friend rehearsals in September and January to welcome new or potential singers.

What are auditions?

Singers auditioning for our younger choirs can expect to sing one or two simple vocal exercises led by their director. Simple rhythm games are used to gauge the singer's ability to mimic a musical beat. Directors are also determining if the singer is ready to participate fully in rehearsals and follow classroom expectations. You can expect your audition to last approximately 10-12 minutes.

Singers auditioning for our older choirs are asked to come with a solo song prepared. Directors will begin the audition with vocal warm ups, and rhythm and pitch-matching assessment. There will also be opportunity for singers to share if they have any previous musical experience or music-reading skills. Directors use this information to place singers in the choral range that will help them best succeed in OYC. Auditions for older choirs typically last 12-15 minutes.

When does OYC rehearse?

Rehearsals are held Monday afternoons at a local middle school.

Dolce meets 4:30-5:30

Bel Canto meets 4:30-5:45

Coro Voce meets 5:30-7:00

Cantabile meets 6:00-7:30

How much is OYC tuition?

Tuition rates below are for the 2025-2026 season:

Dolce is $75/month.

Bel Canto is $85/month.

Coro Voce and Cantabile are $90/month.

Tuition is due the first Monday of each month, September-May. Alternatively, tuition can be paid annually at time of registration. Other costs include registration and uniform fees.

Are there financial aid opportunities available?

Financial aid is available through an application process with our Board of Directors. We strive to ensure any family who wants to fully participate in OYC can do so, we have financial aid to assist with tuition and uniform fees. Singers or guardians of singers may request more information at time of registration.

How many concerts are there per season?

All OYC choirs participate in a combined, formal concert three times a year. In addition to these scheduled concerts, our individual choirs have opportunities to perform at various local community events throughout the season.
